Non-invasive IR-temperature Measurement Solution

TEP-IR Temperature Measurement in Flexible Bioreactors

PreSens offers OEM solutions and services for non-invasive temperature measurement – TEP-IR - in flexible bioreactors and bags. They can be manufactured in a flat design so they can be attached to the flexible bioreactor wall e. g. from below. The TEP-IR sensor is placed on the outside of the bioreactor and measurements are taken through a specially designed IR window in the reactor wall or an appropriate part of the existing bag wall. No probe needs to be inserted in the bag which makes TEP-IR perfect for temperature measurement in single-use flexible bioreactors. These sensors provide exceptional accuracy without the need for separate in-process calibrations.

Technical

Specifications*
Measurement range + 15 °C to + 45 °C
Accuracy ± 0.2 °C in the + 35 °C to + 40 °C range
± 0.5 °C in the + 15 °C to + 45 ° C range
Resolution < 0.05 °C at 37 °C
Response time (t90) < 60 s
Calibration Different vessel types may require distinct calibration sets
Coditions for Implementation
Distance to vessel surface 2.0 mm ± 0.5 mm (closer is better)
IR window design Ø 9.0 ± 0.1 mm, thickness 1.0 ± 0.1 mm
Liquid coverage IR window must remain covered by liquid during measurement
Mixing requirements Stirring necessary to avoid temperature gradients
Compatible bioreactor materials System performs well with most plastics and irradiated materials, e.g. LDPE, Markrolon 2458, Makrolon RX2530, and Tritan MX731
Disclaimer While the temperature measurement values are reliable for monitoring, the integrator must implement additional safety features and independent systems to ensure proper bioreactor control and user safety.
*Specifications need to be validated for specific implementation scenario
