Can the SFR vario be used for biomass monitoring in mammalian or insect cell culture?

Biomass measurement with the SFR vario is best suited for microbial cultures. In cell culture, the starting cell density is too low for scattered light measurement, giving no useful biomass readings at the beginning of the cultivation period. However, the SFR vario could be applied when monitoring cell culture with high cell densities.
