PreSens Precision Sensing GmbH - eleven years of unbroken successOctober 1, 2008
PreSens Precision Sensing GmbH was established in 1997 as a spin off from the University of Regensburg. The reason was simple: publications of the chair for analytical chemistry, chemical and biosensors brought the unique chemical-optical micro sensors to the attention of researchers. The company reacted to the interest shown and was able to supply its first system on its foundation.
From these first customers for a research topic, the customer base has now grown to hundreds of users ranging from the University of Alaska/ Anchorage to the University of Wellington in New Zealand. Over the last eleven years, the customer group specified in the Scientific R&D has now been extended to cover four business fields.
A request from the market leader for beverage filling systems, Krones AG, Neutraubling triggered the introduction of the Food & Beverage field. PreSens supplies sensors for checking the air-tightness of packaging and a special system for determining the penetrability of oxygen in PET bottles at companies such as Nestle, Heiniken or Danisco. Various partnerships with national and international universities and scientific institutes clearly showed the demand for innovative measuring technology in the biotech sector. Our Biotech field helps pharmaceutical companies such as Roche, DSM or Genentech improve their bioprocess development with PreSens sensors.
The most recent business field has arisen from a cooperation with renowned medical technology manufacturers from the Medical Devices sector. PreSens supplies OEM parts, which are integrated into more complex medical systems and therefore does not have direct contact with the end customer in this area.
The diversification has also been pursued on a geographical basis. Starting from the Regensburg base, business has spread and now over a quarter of turnover is generated in North America. Over the past few years, the consistently profitable company has frequently had to expand its business premises. PreSens currently researches, produces and develops solutions on its almost 1,000 m2 site in Biopark 2. PreSens is set to enjoy further growth in the coming years and can look forward to a bright and successful future.
PreSens Precision Sensing GmbH develops, manufactures and markets chemical optical sensor systems for Life Science applications. In the last more than 10 years it became a leading provider for sensors in Biotech & Pharma, Scientific R&D, Food & Beverage, and Medical devices. Together with its partners it offers full service in Europe, USA and Asia.
