What is the safe-insert function of the Manual Micromanipulator and how does it work?

The safe-insert function is a mechanism specially designed for PreSens needle-type microsensors, to insert the sensor on-the-spot into a sample without risk of damaging the fragile sensor tip.
Usually the plunger of the sensor´s syringe housing is used to push the fiber forward and expose the sensor tip when the microsensor is in place inside the sample. This way the sensor tip has to be pushed forward into the sample, which, if not carried out carefully, might damage the sensor tip.
With the safe-insert function the sensor fiber is held in position while the syringe housing is retracted around the fiber. With this mechanism the fragile sensor tip can be inserted securely within its steel needle into the sample and exposed in µm reading accuracy without straining the fiber.
