High Flexibility for Monitoring Perfusion Systems

January 21, 2015

Precise online measurement of oxygen and pH in complex bioreactor systems by means of newly designed single-use flow-through cells

The newly developed single-use flow-through cells FTC-SU by PreSens with integrated miniaturized chemical optical sensors make it possible to monitor oxygen and pH non-invasively and online in perfusion systems. This allows scientists e. g. to do in-line measurement of oxygen tension in 3D cell cultures or to monitor pH in prolonged cultivations. It will therefore be an important technical contribution for future clinical applications.

The sensors are attached to color coded sensor sticks, which can be attached via Luer connector to flow-throuch cells of different size and T- or Y-shape for various flow rates, according to customers' requirements. FTC-SUs are made of polycarbonate and can be delivered beta irradiated or non-irradiated. The sensor sticks can be connected to respective measurement meters with a polymer optical fiber (POF), which is available in lengths of up to 5 meters.

The new and special desing of the FTC-SUs by PreSens enables users to combine these flow-through cells with sensor sticks, and POFs of different lengths in any possible combination. This offers a maximum in flexibility  - it simplifies applications with physiological solutions or culture media in complex bioreactor systems.
