A Look behind the Scenes at PreSens

July 17, 2014

Open Day at the BioPark in Regensburg

BioPark Regensburg celebrated its 15th anniversary on Saturday, July 12th 2014, with an open day. And PreSens, being one of the first tenants, surely took the opportunity to present its sensors and measurement systems to the visitors.

The BioPark and its companies and institutes opened their doors to the public, so everybody could get a short insight in the world of biotechnology, recent research and developments. PreSens demonstrated its different sensor systems and the interested visitors got to learn how these sensors are applied in scientific research, or could do their own oxygen measurements.

The different sensor systems on display attracted guests of all ages, some with general interest in the technology and how it works, others with specific interest in what these different sensors are used for, e. g. to determine the oxygen permeability of PET bottles or to supervise biological decomposition of toxins in sediments. They seemed impressed by the manifold application opportunities for optical sensors, displayed in live measurements or small movie presentations. And the kids on a scavenger hunt - collecting points at ten stations by answering questions - had to do real oxygen measurements inside beverage bottles with the Fibox 4. Only who did the measurements right, got the point!

The tour in three buildings on 18.000 m2 in total offered three cinemas with short movie presentations, a health check, and a look behind the scenes in the resident companies´ labs. Furthermore, the guests could visit the Biotechnikum, a mobile laboratory parked right outside ... or simply enjoy some ice cream - made in liquid nitrogen - out in the sun.

Also Regensburg´s mayor Joachim Wolbergs - on a guided tour through the BioPark - visited PreSens. Our Director of Marketing & Innovations, Dr Gernot John, explained the working principle of PreSens sensors, and their advantages in biotechnological applications.
