PreSens first time at the 2014 Ocean Science Meeting in Hawaii

Presenting sensor and imaging systems to scientists and specialists in marine science disciplines from all over the world was the main goal for PreSens to participate in the 2014 Ocean Science Meeting in Honolulu on February 23rd - 28th.

Recent research projects have shown that especially microsensors and the VisiSens™ imaging systems are ideal tools for ocean sciences. Therefore, PreSens did not want to miss the chance to reach an audience specialized in this topic of environmental research. And the 17th biennial Ocean Science Meeting was definitely the right place to be.

The casual and very relaxed atmosphere at the meeting allowed our two colleagues for imaging and microsensor technology to easily strike up a conversation with the convention participants. Especially the VisiSens™ moving on its motorized linear slide system - presented for the first time at a meeting - was an eye catcher. Though many visitors did not know what to make of it at first, they were eager to learn more about the imaging technology. "Our sensor systems fit the needs of marine research perfectly. Many of the interested scientists were impressed by the non-invasive measurement principle of PreSens sensors, because it offers new and previously unthinkable possibilities to conduct their experiments. They instantly came up with ideas how they could use it for their application," remembers our imaging expert at the convention with a smile. "It was a great and absolutely positive experience to get into contact with so many communicative people with specific interest and questions. Some of them even came back to the booth with a colleague, or even showed pictures of their set-ups to discuss options of application."

It was a stressful and above all quite a long trip to get half around the globe from Regensburg to Honolulu. And it took quite some exertions till the booth was set up in the Hawaii Convention Center. However, it was unquestionably worth it! With the positive response and many new contacts made the 2014 Ocean Science Meeting was a full success for PreSens. Although there are no specific plans yet for 2016, it is quite possible that we will present our technology at the next meeting in New Orleans as well.
