Good view despite milky vessel walls
June 14, 2023Online biomass measurements even for milky shake flasks, as shown by a successful experimental set-up with flasks that are only slightly translucent.
With the intention of guaranteeing the best cultivation conditions for E.coli and other microbial cultures, PreSens has now investigated to what extent the slightly milky Ultra Yield® flasks are also suitable for optical biomass monitoring: with success, as our measurement data show. The development of the biomass measurement as well as metabolic activities can be followed in detail with the SFR vario as well as the successful measurement of DO and pH. In this way, growth phases as well as nutrient availability can be accurately estimated by indirectly obtaining information from the DO and pH data obtained with oxygen and pH sensors attached to the flask crown.
